Compo results

¶ The Guardian UK weblogs competition results are out. Obviously I didn’t win, however Scary Duck did. Highly commended were iMakeContent and Greenfairydotcom; runners up were blogjam, LinkMachineGo and Plenty of Taste. Congratulations to all the winners, all the entries and indeed all those who didn’t enter.

Of the bunch, my favourites are LinkMachineGo for some thoroughly excellent links and commentary on British popular culture and Plenty of Taste, a superb typography-leaning blog. Here’s a few selected highlights:

• Interesting info graphic describing Bush’s movements on 9/11.
• Jean-Francois Porchez’s small history of type (in English).
• Tons & tons of graphic ideas from the 30s to today expressed as thousands of airline timetables.
• A great article by Suzanne Stephens on how she selects colours for her projects, showing how she samples colour from photographs and builds working palettes.
• The late Robert Norton’s Disagreeably Facetious Guide to Type Usage.
• Edward Tufte, author of Envisioning Information and other seminal works, has a web site.
• Andy Crewdson (sometime of Lines and Splines) has resurfaced with New Series.
